what is alpha lipoic acid?

alpha lipoic acid is one naturally occurring fatty acid which is produced in small quantities in the body and can also be obtained through food or supplements.

In the body it is formed in the mitochondria, what it is involved in energy production and metabolism. It is part of a complex biochemical process known as the citric acid cycle, where carbohydrates and fats are converted into energy.

The production of alpha-lipoic acid requires several cofactors such as:
